it rolls in swiftly from the ocean, a cloth to trap a creature fluttering against the glass

a soft blanket that coaxes distant horns to hum the sweet and low

for two people wrapped in each others arms for the first and last time

while drips of water meander down the windows

and for a few short hours they breathe as one

and then when it lifts

reveals the sudden and surprising blue of the forgotten sky

and in it

a bird singing
